Introduction

Students, teachers, parents celebrated the World Loud Reading Day with a challenge for children: to read aloud in the presence of adults, but also with them. The challenge was launched and students agreed to put in practice not only for celebrating the day but also for the perspective, in other events. The proposed books were books loved by children, selected by students from the list proposed by librarian.

Learning Objectives

  • read aloud in the presence of other people;
  • communicate and collaborate with peers in interpreting the text they read;
  • explain the meaning of unknown words with the help of adults;

Process

The activity took place in the County Library "Nicolae Milescu Spătarul" Vaslui with participation of students, teachers, parents and the librarian. The children were able to ask questions about the space, personalities, library: How were the busts of the statues in the central hall chosen ? Who was Nicolae Milescu Spătarul ? Step 1: • The reading of an international fairy tale, started by the librarian, continued by the teacher and parents, reading accompanied by a PPT (images, sounds). Step 2: The librarian presents to the students an exposition of books for students. • Students organized in 5 small reading groups (5-6 students) choose a book to be read aloud. Students organized in reading groups read in “chain” fragments from the selected book (5 books). • Parents also read with their children, being integrated in the reading group. Step 3: Each reading group, parents included, prepare a poster to promote the book that was read in group, using drawing, collage, texts, etc. Each group present the poster to the rest of participants. Each student will choose a new book to be read home, in family, filling a reading diary.

Conclusion

The “adult reads” model has a particular impact on a child. Promoting reading in family is a very good practice in promoting a love for reading in students. Evaluation: appreciating the way everyone participates by offering a "sweet" and a bookmark with interesting information printed.
